Today, continuously increasing electrical energy demand is directed the world to investigate of alternative energy sources instead of fossil fuels. The most consupted one of these that called renewable energy sources is hydro-electrical power. Therefore, it is important to maximum benefit from this potential. Ahydrogenerator is used for energy conversion in power plants that is established and will be set up. It is very complex and need to experiment to design of hydrogenerator. Optimization Theory and Methods is a young subject in applied mathematics, computational mathematics and operations research which haswide applications in science, engineering, business management, military and space technology. Last years, optimization theory and techniques are used for design of hydrogenerator. As a result, decrease machine size, increase efficiency and low cost. Hydro-electrical potential is explained in Turkey and also the world. Hydro-electrical power plants, components, and construction stages are described. Energy efficiency has been discussed in Turkey, after summarized the aim of study. Design of hydrogenerator, electromagnetic design, sizing and thermal design subject are explained in detailed. Each methods in design of electrical machines and hydrogenerator are explained in the investegated optimization techniques. An improved second order sensitivity analysis based on numerical approach equation to shape optimization is presented. Technical information are given about hydrogenerator, particularly, physical structure, characteristic values, curves, and operation parameters of hydrogenerator are analyzed. These values are effects machine performance in generator operating situation, such as transient and sub-transient reactance, effective resistance, voltage regulation, airgap flux density, efficiency etc, are determined by simulation progress. Optimization parameters of hydrogenerator are determined to optimise such as SCR (short circuit ratio) and stator bore diameter. As a result, simulation result and optimisation results are compared. Conclusion information is presented.
