Effects of reading story on primary students creativity and academical success

In this research, the effects of story reading on primary fourth and fifth students reading comprehension success and creativity were examined.This research was applied with 30 students of the experimental group and 20 students of the control group (total 50 students) of the fourth and fifth students between March 5 and May 11 during the 2006-2007 academic year in the Mihalgazi Primary School, in Eskişehir.In this research experimental design was applied. Experimental group read with in story reading compaign 60 stories during two monts.The instruments used in this research were Torrance Creative Thinking Test (Oral Form A) and Reading Comprehension Success Test which was prepared by researcher.The aritmetic mean, standart deviation and t- test were applied on data by using SPSS 11,5 in analyzing the data which were collected using directional 0.05 level of significance.The main results of the research are given in the following:1. There was a meainingful difference in the students? success in reading comprehension between the experimental and the control group.2. There was a meainingful difference in the levels of creativity (fluency, flexibility, originality) between the experimental group and the control group.3. There wasn?t a meainingful difference between the experimental group?s students? sex with the success on reading comprehension.4. There wasn?t a meainingful difference between the experimental group?s students? sex with fluency and originality dimension of creativity but there was a meainingful difference in favour of fhe girls about flexibility dimension of creativity.5. There was a meainingful defference between the experimental group?s students? age with the success on reading comprehension.6. There wasn?t a meainingful difference between the experimental group?s students? age with fluency dimension of creativity but there was a meainingful difference in favour of fhe girls about flexibility and originality dimension of creativity.7. The compaign of reading a story raises the habit of readig on both the students of the experimental group and the students of the control group.
