Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effects of campaign of reading stories on performance of comprehending what has been read and attitudes towards Turkish Lesson is investigated.This research has been performed in the first term of 2007-2008 Education Year on the students of 3rd year of İzmir Buca Dirayet Süren Primary School. Among 69 students 36 were selectedas experimental group and 33 as control group. Different classes have been selected in order to provide natural classroom environment. In this study, pre-test and post-test control group based experiment has design been used.Data has been gathered by means of ?Test of Reading What Has Been Read? by Erginer (1998) and ? Scales of Attitude Towards Turkish Lesson? by Demirel(2004: 165). Before experiment, pre-test of achievement and attitude have been applied, stories have been selected for the campaign. During eight-week-experiment, these stories have been read by the students of control group with the idea of reading daily one story, after experiment past tests were applied. All data has been analyzed with t- test on the program of SPSS 16.0 to observe if there is a differenece between of control and experimental group students.As a result of analyses based on the campaign of reading stories;1.A positive effect on the achievement of students of experimental group2.There was no meaningful differences due to attitudes towards Turkish Lesson3.Gender is not effective on achievement and attitudes towards Turkish Leeson4.There was Improvements on study habitsTaking the results into consideration, some suggestions have been given such as at schools campaign between students in order to improve their reading habits, forming home and classroom libraries, excursion to libraries should be provided and project should be made to increase reading habits all over the country.Key Words: Teaching Turkish, Stories, Reading Stories, Comprehending What Has Been Read and Attitude Towards Turkish Lesson
