Abstract (EN)

This thesis is on, the mist-lining method, which is a contemporary cold lining technique, was applied to the painting entitled Salacak by Hikmet Onat, which belongs to a private collection. The mist-lining method was developed as a cold lining method by Jos van Och at Amsterdam SRAL in the 1990s. In the mist-lining method, it is aimed to keep the amount of adhesive and solvent used in lining to a minimum. This method is based on the systematic use of the solvent vapor reactivation in a closed environment. In this method, a rough surface is obtained by fibrating the surface of the lining cloth. Thus, the adhesive provides adhesion to the fibers without being absorbed into the cloth. The carrier textile of the painting entitled Salacak is thin, and the paint layer is thick. The textile is not sufficient as a base. For this reason, it was decided to linet he painting. The mist-lining, which is based on the use of the least amount of adhesive and solvent, was preferred as the lining method. Linen as the new textile base and Plextol B500 diluted 1/3 as an adhesive was used. The adhesive was applied by spraying on the fibered lining cloth and dried. As the activation cloth. The solvent is toluene. Within the scope of the study, the historical development and application principles of lining methods and mist-lining were examined. Visible light (VIS), tangent light, ultraviolet (UV) light, infrared (IR) light and x-ray methods were used for the documentation and examination of the painting entitled Salacak. Microscopic examinations were also carried out on the painting. As a result of the examinations, the deteriorations and their causes over time were determined. The painting entitled Salacak had been restored before. However, during these restorative applications, not compatible materials were used; and the work was damaged as a result of these processes. The reason for the crack network seen on the paint layer is the animal glue, which is thought to have been applied to the painting for the purpose of reinforcing during the old restoration. The old applications, which were the cause of the detected deteriorations, were taken back and the deteriorations were restored. The word origin of the mist-lining method has been examined and an equivalent Turkish term has been suggested.
