Abstract (EN)

It is expressed by various researchers that oil reserves will be consumed in near future. For this reason, there is increased interest in exploring alternative energy sources around the world. Biodiesel is a renewable and clean energy source that does not have an exhaustion problem and can be used without problems in modern diesel engines without any modification. Despite the fact that many different raw materials can be used in the production of biodiesel, biodiesel production from waste animal fats seems attractive because of its low cost. In this study, biodiesel produced from turkey rendering fat from turkey slaughterhouse in Bolu was mixed with petroleum diesel fuel at different ratios and then the engine performance, exhaust emissions, and combustion characteristics were tested in a single cylinder, direct injection diesel engine. As a result of experiments; at all engine revolutions, the maximum cylinder pressures and maximum heat releases were found to be higher because the ignition delays of the biodiesel blends were longer. The addition of biodiesel resulted in a slight decrease in torque and thermal efficiency, but a slight increase in specific fuel consumption. B10 and B20 blends caused a reduction in NOx emissions compared to the reference diesel fuel, while B50 caused a slight increase. In addition, all biodiesel blends have caused a decrease in CO and smoke emissions.
