Abstract (EN)

Evaluation of the audiovestibular system in the patients with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism This study was aimed to investigate evaluate audiovestibular system of patients with hyper/hypothyroidism, and investigate the effect of vestibular and hearing systems. 50 individuals with Hashimoto's disease, 50 individuals with Graves disease and 50 healthy subject were included the study. Pure Voice and Speech Audiometry, Tympanometry, Acoustic Reflex Measurement, Auditory Evoked Brainstem Response and Videonystagmography measurements were conducted to all subjects and the data collected was recorded. There was no statistically significant difference in values of Videonystagmography between Hashimoto/hypothyroidism,Graves/hyperthyroidism and control groups (p>0,05). According to Pure Voice and Speech Audiometry, it was determined that the audiometry values measured at 250-6000 Hz for the right ear and left ear of individuals with Graves were higher than Hashimoto and control groups, Hashimoto group were higher than control group. When effect of disease duration to hearing was examined, it was determined that the duration of the disease uneffected the findings. According to Auditory Evoked Brainstem Response Test, it was determined that the I. wave latency values measured at 80 dB for right and left ear of Graves/hyperthyroidy, Hashimoto/hypothyroidy patients were higher than healthy subjects. But there was no significant difference between groups in terms of III. and V. waves latency values at 80 dB. In group 1, I-III and I- V interpeak latency values at 80 and 60 dB were found to be higher than groups 2 and 3. According to our findings, it can be concluded that hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism have no effect on vestibular system, but hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism have negative effects on hearing system.
