Abstract (EN)
Purpose: Hypermobility syndrome (HS) is a clinical condition which characterized by accompanying various musculoskeletal problems. In literature, studies investigating balance and postural control in individuals with HS are scarce and most of these studies focus on static parameters. Thus in this study it is aimed to investigate whether there is a difference between static and dynamic postural control between healthy and hypermobile individuals. Method: Fifty individuals (45 female, 5 male, mean age: 21,02±0,38 years) identified as hypermobile according to Beighton criteria and diagnosed with HS according to Brighton criteria, and 47 healthy individuals (26 female, 21 male, mean age: 21,72±2,13 years) were included in this study. Static and dynamic postural control assessments were conducted by using Balance Master (NeuroComSystemVersion 8.1.0, B100718, 1989-2004 NeuroCom® International Inc. USA) Results: Both groups indicated no statistical difference between age, body mass index, however it was determined that there is a difference between height and weight values. There is significant difference between individuals with HS and health people in forward end point excursion, maximum excursion parameters of limits of stability test and step width parameter of tandem walk test. Additionally, it was observed that Beighton score was related to step width parameter of tandem walk test, forward-right end point excursion, parameters of limits of stability test results. Conclusion: Individuals with HS indicated a significant step width during gait. According to our results, aforementioned information may help and lead professionals throughout the process while planning rehabilitation programs.
