Abstract (EN)

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: This study was designed to evaluate the effective-ness of two different types of trainings provided to patients with hypertension on compliance to treatment, life quality and healthy lifestyle behaviors. TOOLS AND METHOD: Conducted by using the randomized controlled experi-mental research model, this study was completed with 60 patients, who applied to internal diseases polyclinic of training and research hospitals between June-December 2017 after obtaining permission and ethics committee approval. The patients were trained by means of the direct instruction method and motivational interview. Data was collected through a diagnostic form including socio-demographic characteristics and symptoms associated with diseases, Medication Adherence Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form (MASES-SF), Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale II (HLBS II) and SF-36 Quality of Life Scale (SF-36 QOLS), and the collected data was analyzed in computer environment by using parametric and non-parametric tests. FINDINGS: As a result of the study, it was observed in pre- and post-training fol-low-ups that there was a significant statistical increase in the scores of both the con-trol group and the intervention group in various measurements completed at different times in terms of compliance to treatment, healthy lifestyle behaviors and quality of life average values. Nevertheless, no statistically significant difference was found among the MASES-SF, SF-36 QOLS and HLBS II score averages of the patients with regard to the trainings provided through direct instruction and motivational in-terview methods. CONCLUSION: It was determined that compliance to treatment, quality of life and healthy lifestyle behaviors of the patients improved in scores after the training com-pared to the pre-training period, however there was no difference between the two methods used to train the patients.
