To define changes in vitamin A, D3 and E contents in colostrum of honamli and hair goat following parturition to 5 days

The vitamin composition of colostrum is important in meeting nutritional requirements in goat newborns, especially in terms of fat-soluble vitamins that can only cross the placenta at low levels. 5 Honamli and 5 hair goat colostrum were collected until postpartum 5thday and A, D3 and E vitamin levels were measured by HPLC. The highest levels of retinol, vitamin D3, and tocopherol in the first colostrum samples decreased linearly until the 5thpost partum day and the lowest level in milk samples taken at 20thday postpartum. Retinol levels in the first colostrum of Honamlı goats were lower than hair goats. The first colostrum retinol level of Honamlı and hair goats was statistically significant when compared with colostrum on 3rd, 4th and 5th days (p<0,05). The effect of the day of collection observed statistically significant at retinol level (p> 0,05). D3 vitamin levels in Honamli and hair goats were the highest in the first colostrum samples. Although, hair goat colostrum was higher D3 level but difference was insignificant (p>0,05). Colostrum D3 values decreased in both breeds and reached the lowest measured value on the 5thday. Hair goat average D3 level (1-3 days) was higher than Honamli goats. The colostrum D3 level of Honamlı goats on the 5thday was higher than the hair goats. Day-based changes in both goat breeds were not significant (p>0,05). Tocopherol level was the highest in the first colostrum samples in both goat breeds and reached the lowest level on the 5th day. Although, the average tocopherol levels of hair goats were higher in colostrum of 1-5 days compared to Honamli goats, it was not statistically significant (p>0,05). The effect of goat breed on colostrum tocopherol level was statistically significant (p<0,05). According to the results of the study, colostrum vitamin A, D3 and tocopherol levels differ in breeds but not statistically significant (p>0,05). Lower levels of retinol in both breeds may likely results of storage conditions so that previous reports showed that strorage at -20 0C, in 15 days resulted in 55% vitamin A loses. Vitamin of D3 and vitamin E levels were within the values reported in previous studies.
