Abstract (EN)
Iconoclasm, which constitutes one of the breaking points of the history of the Byzantine State, has been one of the most important experiences in the History of Christianity. In this period, which lasted for more than a century (726-843), iconophiles as icon supporters faced strict tests and were exposed to prosecution before their success. Uludağ was one of the places where iconophiles took shelter to escape pressure and torture, as it is close to the capital and allows for easy disappearance. The monks preferred Uludağ as it provides security and privacy. Uludağ also hosted those who took shelter in it throughout the history of iconoclasm, and a tremendous monastic heritage emerged in Uludağ in this process. This study mainly deals with monasteries and monks that made Uludağ a pilgrimage center visited by even the emperors in the 9th and 11th centuries. It tries to determine the locations of the monasteries through the monk's legends and their current ruins and discusses the Christian heritage in Uludağ in detail.
