Abstract (EN)
Steel tanks or silos are preferred more than reinforced concrete silos due to their fast production and assembly advantages. This study provides general information about silo types and definitions, steel silo construction principles and loads acting on the walls and chambers of cylindrical silos. A high-capacity cylindrical steel silo, determined as effect class 2 according to the Eurocode-1991-4 standard, was modeled. Detailed load calculations were made in accordance with the Eurocode-1991-4 standards, and filling, emptying and additional loads were taken into account in these calculations. SAP2000 software was used for three-dimensional finite element modeling and analysis, and static analysis was performed. The results showed that cylindrical silos experience low stress and deformation under filling and emptying loads. Furthermore, the geometry of cylindrical silos increases structural stability by distributing the pressure of the material inside them more evenly.
