Translation of et-Tuhfetü'z-Zekiyye fi'l luġati't-Türkiyye by Hüseyin Hüsameddin efendi (Dictionary section)

It is possible to classify the millions of works produced in various regions and periods in the Turkish language from different perspectives. Among these classifications, works dealing with grammar hold a significant place. The Mamluk corpus, to which the majority of the surviving works written in Kipchak Turkish—a historical dialect—belong, has particular importance in this context. The fact that the ruling class of the Egyptian Mamluks was composed of Turks while the general population's native language was Arabic became a significant factor in the production of numerous works, particularly in the fields of grammar and lexicography. Et-Tuhfetu'z-Zekiyye fî'l-Lugati't-Türkiyye, produced during this period and in this region, is among the most important works written to teach Turkish to Arabic speakers. The subject of this thesis is the Turkish translation—written in Arabic script at the beginning of the twentieth century—of this historical text, which has been studied extensively. No prior academic work has been conducted on this particular manuscript, handwritten by a translator known as the "Amasya Müverihi." Since the manuscript includes translations of both the dictionary and grammar sections of the original work, it is believed that this study will make a significant contribution to both Kipchak Turkish and broader Turkish linguistic research. The manuscript examined in this study is registered under the number 664529 at the Süleymaniye Library. In the textual section of this study, the transcription of the manuscript has been completed. Subsequently, it has been compared—particularly in terms of orthography, reading, and interpretation— with other key works such as the version translated by Besim Atalay and published by the Turkish Language Association (Et-Tuhfetu'z-Zekiyye fî'l-Lugati't-Türkiyye), and the master's thesis by Gulhan Al-türk titled A Linguistic Study on Et-Tuhfetu'z-Zekiyye fî'l-Lugati't-Türkiyye.
