The determination of the level of anxiety and depression of old people who live in the nursing home

THE DETERMINATION OF THE LEVEL OF ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION OF OLD PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE NURSING HOME Aynur BAHAR M.S. Dr. Gülümser SERTBAŞ February - 2005, 105 pages ABSTRACT This study prepared for the old people who live in the nursing home and our aim is to find out the level of the old age depression and their anxiety. The research range is the 71 people who live in the SHÇEK Gaziantep Nursing Home, between 1-15 October. Data collecting method was the form which prepared by the researcher included sociological-demographic variabless and the old people curriculum vitaes and for measuring their depression levels, Geriatric Depression measure and for measuring their anxiety levels, Beck Anxiety measure has been applied. For the evaluation of the percentage of the datas which have already been collected by Student t-test and the method of one way Annova. From the results of the research; the condition of interview with their companion, the view of old age structure, the number of children,the feelings of their health, the evaluation of spare time in the nursing home and the desire of activity, the average of the grades have been determined (p<0,05). The period of remaining in the nursing home of old people, the state of perceiving and the level of choronic illness are determined to increase the level of anxiety (p<0,05). The researcher has proposed for decreasing the level of anxiety and depression by helping of the results of the research. Key Words: Nursing home, old age, depression, anxiety u
