Investigation of spatial organization of nursing homes, Bolu and Düzce samples

With prolongation of lifetime elderly population has increased in our country and in the world, so the need for comprehensive work on elderly institutions has increased, elderliness in in evitable an each person is likely to encounter it. Modern living conditions makes it necessary to resolve aged care in institutional structures institutions such as elderly care homes which we call old age institutions have become an issue to be searched on and developed because of changing opportunities and the needs. The aim of this study is to search architecture of this institutions and the relation between behavior of elderly people and architectural design of spaces. In this research, spatial analysis is performed by searching the effects of spatial data obtained from field studies on elderly behaviors. Spatial behaviors of elderly users and spatial responses they develop to the environment they are in is aimed to be revealed with this study. This search has been carried out at Bolu İzzet Baysal Nursing Home located in central district of Bolu Province and Neriman Çilingir Nursing Home at Kalıcı Konutlar district in Düzce Place, spatial framework and elderly science (gerontoloji) topics forms the conceptual framework of this search. The hypothesis of this study is that the institution they live affects the perception of users and the search goes in that direction. This searches has been has been carried out at four stages in which photography, observation, interviews and survey methods are used. After evaluating the data's obtained with this search behavioral reactions of elderly users, the way they use the places, the effect of spatial transformation item on places chosen for field work are revealed. As a result, at designing the nursery houses in the future, concrete measures during the architectural design process by taking the affective and behavioral needs of people in this age group are aimed to be obtained.
