Abstract (EN)

Huzurkent is placed in the administrative border of Mersin province, in the part of Adana, in Region Mediterranean. Established in 1968, Huzurkent gained the status of municipality in 1969. In 2004, with Nacarli and Baglarbasi streets included in, the count of streets has raised up to 7. In 2012, via metropolitan government, Huzurkent municipality was closed. From the date, it was ranked as the street unit of Akdeniz town of Mersin. In the present, having a 38,78 km² of the acreage, Huzurkent is holding 7 street units. Huzurkent, that was located on the land of an alluvial plain, has appropriate climatic factors and none topographic handicap and fertile soil, which made it preferable as a residential area and cause it attract population in a tiny period. Being in route where Mersin-Adana highway and Mersin-Adana railway are placed, has led to some changes in Huzurkent's socio-economic structure. In its establishment period, Huzurkent, which had shown a feature of rural settlement style with its intensive agricultural activity, along with its transportation function effect over ground, has shown development in commercial, industry and service sectors and gained an urban character in time. Although there is no topographical handicap in ground, it is seen differences in the distribution of population over streets. The population presents density mostly in south streets of Mersin-Adana highway and north streets of the railway. Along with commercial, industrial and service-based activities grow, in our term, the agriculture is protecting its importance as an economical activity. In Huzurkent, modern agricultural methods are applied and various vegetables and fruit agriculture is done. Huzurkent abounds in transportation functions. In the ground both highway haulage and railway access systems exist. With these transportation systems it is possible to reach a lot of residential areas. Placed between the cities Mersin and Tarsus, which are in a good situation in international commercial, Huzurkent, improved its commercial and industrial activities in the ground along with the establishment of Mersin Tarsus Industrial Park. Trade has improved along with Mersin-Adana highway and Ataturk Boulevard. In Huzurkent, retail trade, commercial activities through daily needs, long term requirements and periodical needs have grown. Industry was established in Mersin-Tarsus highway and on the areas where Mersin Tarsus Industrial Park exist and it forms an employment area for both Huzurkent and the settlements around.
