The correspondence reflected in the sources of Islamic history during the era caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr

The first caliph of Islamic history, Hz. Abu Bakr, is one of the most significant figures during the life of Prophet Muhammad and after. Upon embracing Islam, he did not spared neither his life nor wealth in the cause of Allah. As a best friend and a pillar of strength, he remained unwaveringly by the side of Prophet Muhammad, until His passing. The challenging period that ensued after the death of Prophet Muhammad was successfully endured, not only due to his sincerity and courage but also because of his effective leadership. Particularly, turmoil immediately following the Prophet's demise and the power vacuum were adeptly resolved through his steadfastness. In addition to his sincerity and courage, Hz. Abu Bakr's success can be attributed to his effective governance skill. The tumultuous events that unfolded in the aftermath of Prophet Muhammad's death, nearly engulfing the entire Arabian Peninsula in apostasy, were averted by him, ensuring the unity and tranquility of the Muslim community. Thanks to his longsightedness, conquest movements that paved the way for the expansion of Islam into vast territories, launched. Undoubtedly, the methods and strategies he employed played a crucial role in his success. Throughout his life, and especially during his caliphate, he treaded Prophet's footsteps and his teachings were his primary guide in resolving issues. The correspondence addressed in this study represents one of the effective and successful communication methods employed by him, inspired by the example of Prophet Muhammad. Under Hz. Abu Bakr's caliphate, various political, military, and diplomatic correspondences were conducted, with a significant portion authored by the caliph himself, while some were written by the renowned commander of the time, Khâlid ibn Walid. His letters to tribes, commanders, and officials served as a formidable mechanism for control under the conditions of that era. This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the successes accomplished under Hz. Abu Bakr's leadership and a more comprehensive evaluation of the historical period.
