Maxillary transverse deficiency is one of the most common malocclusions. There are many different expansion methods used in the treatment of maxillary transverse deficiency. In order to expand the upper jaw, devices that are supported only by teeth or supported by both teeth and bones can be used. In addition, surgical-assisted maxillary expansion and less invasive corticomy applications can be performed in adult patients for expansion. By using Finite Element Analysis, the possible stress distribution and dislocation status on teeth, periodontal ligament, bone, sutures and surrounding tissues can be determined with the expansion protocols applied in patients with transversal maxillary deficiency and a prediction for clinical practice can be occured. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of 15 different groups including of bone-supported, tooth-supported and both bone and tooth-supported appliances on craniofacial structures as a result of maxillary expansion. With this study, it is aimed to provide a foresight to the clinicians by simulating the three-dimensional model obtained in the computer with the Finite Element Method.
