Abstract (EN)
After the Roman Empire was divided into two as east and west among the sons of Theodisius I in 395 CE, the Western part collapsed in 476. Unlike the west, the Eastern part evolved into Byzantium as a medieval empire and managed to survive until 1453. The reign of Emperor Anastasius, a critical period for the Late Roman Empire, corresponds to the end of the 5th century and the beginning of the 6th century. The rebellions (which we studied as the domestic problem of the period), the conflicts with the Sassanids threatening the eastern border of the empire, the problems with the Germanic tribes (especially Goths on the western border), religious conflicts, and the financial difficulties were the main problems of this era. The war between the Romans and Sasanians, which took place between the years 502-506 and which were the two great powers of the period, had devastating effects on the urban life on the eastern border. In addition to these, all of the actions of Anastasius, such as the coin reform that he brought as a solution to financial problems, the fortifications he had built to ensure border security, and the abolition of some taxes were studied in our study.
