Investigation of the roles of opposite characters in I. S. Turgenev's "Fathers and Sons" and Orhan Kemal's "The Junk Dealer and His Sons" novels in the context of social reality

Social realism has been a phenomenon used in many fields in terms of both its formation as a movement and its content. This socialist movement, which was formed under the realism movement and progressed as a sub-branch of this movement, has been an important building block of literature. This movement became famous with the socialist writers it supported, diversified and existed in world literature. In our study, the lives and literary arts of I. S. Turgenev and Orhan Kemal, who are among the important writers of Russian and Turkish literatures and included social realist traces in their works, were examined and the works of "Fathers and Sons" and "Junk dealer and Sons" were compared. Since the works that we have examined with comparative literature techniques touch on the problems of their periods and their responses to these problems are important, these issues are also discussed. While reflecting the periodical problems to the works, the attitudes of the authors and the sides they support, and giving a brief summary of the period brought our work to maturity. The examination of these works, which are given in the field of social realism, by the critics and the importance of the society's point of view on the works is another subject included in our study. Our work on the work of the Russian novelist I. S. Turgenev "Fathers and Sons" and the work of the Turkish novelist Orhan Kemal "The Junk dealer and His Sons" is becoming topical in terms of the comparative presentation of the period, social structure and, accordingly, the opposite characters. Translation, analysis and comparison methods were used in our study.
