Definition theory of İbn-i Hazm

Classical logic has two main topics. The first of these issues is the tasawwurat/conception, which is called the concept logic by modern logicians, and the second is the judgmental logic, tasdigat/assent. Concepts and definition are discussed under the title of tasawwurat, while proposition, reasoning and style of reasoning, and the five arts that are considered to be the field of their application are discussed in the subject of tasdigat. The purpose of addressing concepts under the title of tasawwurat is to move to a correct and consistent understanding of definition. Definition is the essential element that allows people to learn about something. When the definition or boundaries of what is being discussed are determined, it is more convenient to talk about this thing and it can be agreed more easily. In the present study, the definition understanding of Ibn Hazm, who is considered to be the systematizer of the Zahirism sect in the Islamic thought tradition, is discussed. The article examines how the Andalusian scholar, who has not been examined much in the science of logic, looks at logic with his Zahiri identity and how he approaches the sciences. This thesis consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, Ibn Hazm's understanding of logic was emphasized and his study et-Takrîb, which he wrote about this science, was tried to introduce. In the second chapter, according to Ibn Hazm, five predicables are discussed. In order to be a preliminary preparation for Ibn Hazm's understanding of definition, an evaluation was made byvii comparing his understanding of the five predicables and the statements of Aristotelian logicians about the five predicables. In the third chapter, by selecting some notions from Ibn Hazm's different studies, it is revealed how his understanding of definition is in terms of logic science.
