Abstract (EN)

Most of the leakages observed in water distribution systems occur on consumer (service) connections. These leakages generally do not come up to surface and can be determined by active leakage control. To reduce water losses causing from leaks, leakages and reasons of leakages on service connections must be analyzed. In this study, it is aimed to investigate leakages on service connections, factors causing these leakages and effects of leakages on water losses. For this purpose, water distribution system of Malatya was chosen as the application area and service connection breakdowns recorded between the years of 2007-2016 and they were analyzed. Also, flows and pressures into 11 district metered areas are observed to analyze effect of service connection failures on water losses by minimum night flow analysis. According to this analysis, it was determined that a significant portion of the leakages that occurred on service connections do not come out to the surface. Also it was determined that these leakages increase water losses significantly. It is believed that the results obtained in this study will provide significant acquisitions for water companies and academic researchers.
