Determination of academic motivation profiles of interiordesign students and evaluation of their relationships withdesign thinking mindset

Three basic components have a role in design education: student, lecturer and learning method. Within the scope of the thesis, the "student" factor in this structure has been focused on. In the face of the changing student profile due to many factors such as generation characteristics, it is necessary to renew the structure of the education programs in parallel with the changes. "Student academic motivation", which is one of the factors affecting the quality of education, and "design thinking", which is an up-to-date creative problem solving approach in the world, are discussed within the scope of the thesis. In order to propose solutions depending on the motivation factor, it was first necessary to determine the motivation profiles of the students by assessment and evaluation methods. The scope of the study is limited to interior design students in Turkey. Within the framework of the study, it was aimed to determine the types of student academic motivation, to establish relations between the design thinking and to present a development model for interior design education based on the findings and results of the study. The sample group determined for the study was directed to an open-ended question, Academic Motivation Scale, and a questionnaire created for the opinions of design thinking in a data collection tool, and the data that obtained were analyzed within the framework of mixed method research. As a result of the study, up-to-date data on the types of motivation of interior design students was obtained, and a development model proposal was presented, which included suggestions for the student-focused development of interior design education programs based on the results.
