Özet (EN)
PURPOSE: To investigate the occipital cortex metabolit changes in IIN with TE 136 ms MRS.MATERYAL AND METHODS: The study was conducted between june 2007 and may 2008 in Inonu University Medical School, ophthalmology department. Three groups were conducted. The first group was formed from IIN patients. In order to exclude the cause of metabolit change that would be occured in IIN group, was due to low level of vision or nystagmus itself, the second group was formed from bilateral ametropic amblyopia patients . The third group was conducted from healty control. In first group, 11 patients [ (mean age: 7,45 ± 4,45 (min: 2 max: 16) )], in second group, 9 patients [(mean age: 7,44 ± 2,29 (min: 5 max:13)], in third group, [(mean age: (7,6 ± 3,46 (min: 4 max: 17)] 10 health subjects were present. The occipital cortex NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr ratios from three group gathered by TE 136 MRS and compared by using statistical analysis.RESULTS: The NAA/Cr ratios were 1,793 ± 0,318 (1,419 - 2,741), 1,979 - 0,303 (1,647 ± 2,658), 1,898 ± 0,558 (1,22 - 2-3,749) in the first, second, and third groups, respectively. The Cho/Cr ratios were 0,836 ± 0,293 (0,487 - 1,754), 0,655 ± 8,225 (0,565 - 0,820), 0,688 ± 0,17 (0,363 - 0,934) in the first, second, third groups, respectively. There was no statistical significant difference betwen the three group Naa/Cr ratios (p: 0,222). The Cho/Cr ratios were found to be statistically significant difference between three groups (p: 0,027). The Cho/Cr ratio of the first group was statistically significant high when compared with the second group (p: 0,008). There was no statistically significance between the first and third group (p: 0,174), second and third group (p: 0,167) Cho/Cr ratios.CONCLUCİON: In our study occipital cortex NAA/Cr ratios of IIN and bilateral ametropic amblyopia patients were not different from normal subjects. However Cho/Cr ratios were found to eleveted in IIN patients. As a result, in our study we demostrated that in IIN there would be some metabolic alternations in occipital cortex that we could not understand yet.KEYWORDS: Idiopatic infantile nystagmus, bilateral ametropic ambliyopia, occipital cortex, TE 136 ms MRS.
