Özet (EN)
Idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD) is a chronic, progressive, neurodegenerative disease caused by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Sleeping problems are an important non-motor symptom affecting Parkinson's patients. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(indeksin orjinal ismi böyle geçiyor) (PSQI) is one of the scales used to evaluate sleep quality. Ghrelin is a peptide popularly known as the "hunger hormone", which is an endogenous ligand of the growth hormone secretory receptor. It has been reported that ghrelin could be a biomarker in early stage Parkinson's patients when measured with the appropriate method and time. For this reason, this study aimed to show subjective sleep quality in Idiopathic Parkinson's Patients and its relationship with serum ghrelin level. 63 patients with Parkinson's disease and 59 healthy volunteers with similar sociodemographic distribution were included in this study. 61.9% of our patients are male and 38.1% are female. The mean age was 64.7 years. Our patients were evaluated with Modified Hoehn and Yahr Scale (H&Y), and Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) . The values of the patients and healthy volunteers were determined according to the PSQI scale. Serum fasting ghrelin levels were measured using the ELISA method. In our study, there was a significant difference between the patients and control groups in terms of PSQI values (p = <0.001), and PSQI values were found to be higher in Parkinson's patients. In addition, a significant and moderately correlated (r 0.517) relationship was found between the PSQI values and the UPDRS non-motor scores of the patients. There was no statistically significant relationship between serum fasting ghrelin levels and UPDRS motor, UPDRS non-motor, H&Y and PSQI values. Additional studies examining the levels of ghrelin measured at different postprandial times in addition to fasting ghrelin in more Parkinson's patients are needed.
