Abstract (EN)
Molecular detection of luxS gene in biofilm-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae from hospitalised patients is one of the important issues in clinical microbiology. Biofilms increase the persistence of bacteria and complicate the treatment of infection by evading immune responses and antibiotics. This study aims to identify the biofilm encoding gene in K. pneumoniae isolates from patients with urinary tract infections, thus understanding the mechanisms behind antibiotic resistance and potentially developing treatment strategies. A total of 200 clinical samples were included in this study. The results revealed that 78 Gram-negative bacterial isolates were isolated. After identification, 28 K. pneumoniae isolates were isolated from hospitalised patients. Furthermore, K. pneumoniae isolates were found to be biofilm and urease producers. Genetic detection of the luxS gene was performed by core detection and the results revealed that 28 isolates (100%) carried the luxS gene. These findings highlight the virulence of K. pneumoniae and suggest that quorum sensing may improve therapeutic strategies and patient outcomes in the management of persistent urinary tract infection
