Installation art and architecture as a tool of expression

In the process until the twentieth century, the society's view of art was seen as consisting only of the artist and the product of art. With the installation art that emerged in the 1960s, the presence of the viewer has also been included in the meaning of the artwork, and the role of the artist and the viewer in the artwork has begun to be reshaped.The experimental side of the art of installation is that it causes artists to examine different disciplinary concepts, as well as an understanding of art that brings together different disciplines and feeds from these disciplines. In these periods, the messages sent by the work to the viewer began to gain more importance as well as the dialogue of art and architecture. Because one of the most important elements that provides the meaning of the installation works is the viewer and the artwork finds its true meaning within the framework of the relationship between the works and the viewer.The installation works contain special meanings to the place with the sensory perceptions that the viewer creates on them and change the meaning of the place where they are placed. In this context, the works of Erwin Wurm, Ian Strange, Doug Aitken, Rachel Whiteread and Do Ho Suh, who have created important works in the art of installation by using all kinds of materials and technologies in order to convey the meaning of their works to the viewer, are discussed within the scope of the study. Although there are many artists working on the subject, the works of these five artists, who approach the concept of home and space with a different perspective and contradictory material applications, have been examined in order to limit the subject. The conceptual infrastructure of the installation works makes it difficult for the viewer to perceive the message that the artist wants to convey. The aim of the study is to reveal the messages desired to be given to the audience with the help of codes and codes through the selected works of the artists determined within the scope of the research, to reveal the deep meanings of the works other than the apparent meaning by looking at the works from a different perspective with semiotics. It is also important to analyze and interpret the architectural concepts that the artists put forward in their works, through the interpretations of their works, in terms of semiotics, and the effect of the diversity in the materials used by the artists on the viewer.
