Freedom of expression and the internet

In this study, the advantages and disadvantages of freedom of expression on the Internet, its contribution to the development of human rights and its effect on the basic dynamics of democracy are examined.In the first part, the definition and brief history of the right to freedom of expression are explained, and the reasons for freedom of expression are explained.The scope of the right in the international legal documents regulating the right to freedom of expression and the reasons for restriction are examined and explained in the light of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.In the second part of the study, the possibilities and problems of internet, new media and social media concepts are discussed.Statistical data on internet and social media usage were used.Within the scope of freedom of expression, discussions on the rights that came to the fore with the internet.Finally, in the third section, opposing views on the contribution of freedom of expression on the internet to human rights and democracy are included.In the light of the reports of international non-governmental organizations, the reflections of the possibilities of freedom of expression on the Internet on democracies in the years when the use of the Internet increased.
