Effect of work stress on work motivation: An application in shopping center

Nowadays, employees face certain levels of stress sources both in their daily lives and in their work life spanning a certain period of time. Rapid and accurate determination of the source of stress plays an important role in reducing the negative effects. They need a peaceful workplace environment and an organizational climate in which their duties and responsibilities are determined for their employees to perform highly at work. In other words, employee performance is affected by job stress and job motivation. Keeping the motivation of employees high in businesses depends on their work in stress-free environments. For this reason, the origin of stress sources and the effect of motivation elements on employees should be known by business managers. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between work stress and work motivation. For this purpose, 200 volunteer employees working in a shopping center in Ankara province were reached. Stress, one of the important elements of modern life, can cause serious problems if it is not managed properly. Our findings revealed very weak-weak and moderate negative-side relationships between work stress on work motivation. It has also been found that work stress negatively affects work motivation and sub-factors (intrinsic, extrinsic). It was found that gender and marital status were not significantly differentiated from demographic variables by work stress and work motivation.
