Abstract (EN)
In this research, the technical specifications, colors, motifs, compositions, areas ofuse and the contribution of kilims which have been woven in Iğ r to the economy of thedıregion has been investigated and the opinions of people who get their living on weaving havebeen taken. .The research encompasses the kilims woven in Iğ r region and opinions of weavers.dı50 Weavers in the region have been interviewed with and a survey prepared has beenconducted. The obtained results of the survey have been evaluated under adequate titles,comparisons and comments have been made. Furthermore 24 types of kilims available in theregion have been examined and information concerning the colors, motives, technique,composition and dimensions of these kilims has been presented in the inquiry formsprepared.The hand woven kilims representing our traditional culture has fallen a prey to therecent climate and conditions. The carper models in Iğ r province have been documenteddıthanks to this research and a scientific work which has been lacking until recently has beenprepared.The kilim weaving has been loosing ground in the region day by day. Most of theindividuals engaged in this branch of art is mid aged or older. The younger generation feelsno interest in this branch of art. When their education backgrounds have been scrutinized, itis seen that most of them are illiterate. The individuals in the region who are engaged in thisbranch of art have their initial purpose of supplying for their own needs and carry on with thetraditions and dower consuetude. The means of living for the individuals in the region isfarming and cattle breeding. The individuals who carry on weaving with the wool yarns theyhave obtained from their sheep use their ground weaving looms for the work. The kilimsobserved generally had widths of 150 cm. and lengths of 4-5 meters. Besides darker colors(burgundy, grey, black, Brown) have largely been used. Among the kilim models wheregeometric ornaments are dominant, the most interesting are the kilims which have one or twoborders on sides with patterns in the middle. The individuals use the kilims they have wovenas small floor carpets (yaygı covers for unused beds, sacks for clothes (mafraşand for), )ornamental uses.
