Abstract (EN)

The studies on Islam constitute the main research field of orientalism. In these studies, it is noticed that many Jewish orientalists research the source of Islam, the life of the Prophet Muhammad, the Qur'an, and Hadith. One of the leading figures of the Orientalist mentality was Ignaz Goldziher, a Jewish scholar of Hungarian origin. Even though some studies have been conducted against the views that Goldziher suggested in the field of hadith, it was considered that it would be appropriate to analyze them within the context of theology. In this study, Goldziher's work "Vorlesungen Uber den Islam" translated by İlhan Başgöz and published under the title of "Fiqh and Akaid in Islam" was discussed. The study consists of an introduction, two main chapters, and a conclusion section. In the introduction, a conceptual framework has been established within the scope of the objective and method of the study and general information about orientalism and Goldziher has been presented. In the first chapter of the study, Goldziher's life has been briefly mentioned, and his general views on the Islamic religion have been presented plainly without any further remarks. In the second chapter of the study, Goldziher's views in his book "Fiqh and Akaid in Islam" (Vorlesungen Uber den Islam) have been analyzed in terms of theology under the headings of Kalam, Islamic Religion, Eclectic Islam Claim (Islamic Law and Islamic Sufism), Qur'an, Sunnah, Prophethood, and Mu'tazila. Goldziher did not consider Islam as a divine religion and argued that Islam had a heterogeneous structure. It has been revealed that he did not accept the Qur'an and the Sunnah, which are the main sources of Islam, that he suggested that the religion of Islam has an eclectic structure and that he made claims rejecting the prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad. Within the scope of this study, all of Goldziher's arguments were scrutinized in detail, and it has been demonstrated that they are not acceptable from a theological point of view.
