Examining the relation between the level of cognitive distortion and the level of stress of the adolescents i̇n İHKİB Kağıthane Vocational Technical High School

Title of the Thesis: Examining The Relation Between The Level Of Cognitive Distortion And The Level Of Stress Of The Adolescents İn İHKİB Kağıthane Vocational Technical High School Vocational Stress is the pressure on human beings which causes emotional, physiological and behavioural reactions and symptoms through various factors. Although it sometimes has positive effects, stress generally has negative effects on individuals and damages relationships that a person has. Adolescence, is one of the most important periods for the development of an individuals' personality. It is a period in which one can come across events that cause stress and that one could have problems on managing the source of stress. Especially because of cognitive distortions, stress is felt more intensely on adolescents and with the effect of cognitive distortions adolescents cannot cope with the stress enough. In this research, the realtionship between the level of adolescents' cognitive distortion and the level of their perceived stress has been investigated. Data in this research is collected with the help of Cognitive Distortion Scale and Perceived Stress Scale. Data obtained by these scales were analised with the Package Program of Statistical Package for Social Sciences for Windows (SPSS) 21.0. According to the findings which were obtained from the statistical analysis, there is a meaningful relationship between cognitive distortion and the perceived stress. The inferior dimensions of cognitive distortion such as seeing life as dangerous, helplessness and desperation have a high correlation among each other according to other dimensions. The demographical features of adolescents effect their cognitive distortion and their level of stress in different levels. Especially it is seen that parental attitude has a clear effect on two of these factors.
