Military schools in rural Ottoman provinces in Abdulhamid II's time

In this study, military schools in Ottoman provinces at the time of Sultan Abdulhamid II are examined. In the introduction part, changes in education system of 19th century are briefly discussed. Then, in the first part, 19th century military schools and education system at the time of Abdulhamid II are analyzed. In the second part, situation of military schools in Abdulhamid II's reign, military schools in different Ottoman provinces and their nature are reviewed. In the conclusion part, a general evaluation is given for what is discussed and analyzed before. Objectives of opening such schools, political policies, number of these institutions and students, appointment of teachers, lessons taught and lesson books, German military officers brought from their countries for employment, placement of orphan, immigrant, converted children as students, place and nature of these schools which train teacher for military education are generally the subject matter of this study. It is the result of a meticulous analysis of archive documents, research books, academic articles and dissertations on the matter as it is demonstrated on the paper. The goal of choosing such a subject is to shed a light on rural military schools in Abdulhamid II's time, bring their goals, operating processes, policies to light in a scientific way.
