An example of the period of Antiochus III and thehellenistic polis status: The city of Amyzon

This study investigates the Seleucid Empire, which was formed after Alexander's death and the Diadochi's division of his empire, and the alliances they formed, as well as the reign of Antiochus III, one of the most important kings of this empire. The king's relations with the city-states of Asia Minor are also discussed in this study. Seleucus, one of Alexander's commanders who did not receive any land in the first division of Alexander's empire, established his own kingdom in 305 BC through various alliances and subsequently gained control over a large territory that included part of Asia Minor. This study focuses on the periods of the kings who succeeded Seleucus I, and in particular on the accession of Antiochus III as the sixth king and the transformation of his kingdom into an empire. The relationship between the Seleucid Kingdom and Hellenistic cities is also examined in this study. The relationship between the city of Amyzon and the king serves as a good example of this topic.
