Özet (EN)

With the end of the bipolar world system, there have been great changes both in international relations and in foreign policies of the countries. Terrorism, the roots of which are quite old but the applications are fairly new compared to its history, should be taken into consideration in this new formation. The fight against terrorism has become a major concern in internal and external politics of the states and some marginal measures have been taken to counter this asymmetrical threat. This situation resulted in disregarding the role and importance of supranational organizations in maintaining peace and indicates that lawlessness is likely to increase in the new international system. Consequently, nothing would be the same in the fields of defense and security. The first part of the thesis, entitled ?Terror, Terrorism, and Its International Dimension?, deals with the definitions of terror and terrorism, the types of terrorism, and the characteristics of the international terrorism after the Cold War. The second part examines terrorism and the PKK in Turkey after the end of the bipolar system. The third part inquires into the latest situation of the PKK terrorist organization with respect to its renewed thesis and strategy.
