Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to examine the effect of technologybased and traditional methods on teaching of quadratic equations and functionsthrough realistic problem situations.Objectivist and constructivist approaches to learning are introduced.Available technologies and their integrations to teaching-learning environment arediscussed. The research was carried out with 100 students attending to Izzet BaysalAnadolu Lisesi in Bolu. Effectiveness of the teaching with different approaches incontrol and experimental groups is investigated. The attitude and mathematics test scores of the students in the control andthe experimental groups are measured at the beginning of the study. There were nosignificant differences of the students in attitude and mathematics scores at thebeginning. In control group, traditional methods were used while, in experimentalgroup, a technology based and constructivist approaches were used. At the end of thestudy, a test consisting ten real world problems and a survey for attitude towardsmathematics were applied to the students in both groups.Hypotheses were tested by conducting descriptive statistics, ANCOVA,MANCOVA and correlation analysis. The results showed that the experimentalgroup scored significantly higher than the control group with respect to mathematicssuccess scores. There were no significant differences between students? attitudescores. Some recommendations are given based on the findings of this study andthe previous research findings.Key Words: Objectivism, constructivism, technology, attitude, success
