Abstract (EN)
The 20th century has been a period of great destruction Worldwide, especially in Europe, where two world wars were experienced. After the First World War, the artists who were exposed to the destruction began to question their value judgments and reflected the devastation caused by the war on their art. Germany, which left World War I with heavy sanctions, fell into political chaos created by rising right- wing and left-wing views resulting from economic and social inconsistencies. The National Socialist ideology, whose ground was laid in this environment, influenced the masses with the effect of the propaganda policy it followed and came to power in 1933. The party continued its propaganda policy, which it started before it came to power, during its time in power. One of the essential policies the government follows, which intervenes in every aspect of life for the empire that will last for thousands of years, is cultural policies. In this context, the government, which monopolized all branches of art, put Aryan art as a new understanding of art in its war against modernism. As a result of the oppressive culture and art policies of the Nazi government, many artists had to emigrate or stop their art careers. Artists who had to flee their country continued to produce art in the places they migrated and contributed to the formation of new art movements. The most concrete results of this artist migration were seen in the American artists who started to produce works under the influence of the changing and developing art environment in America and modern movements in art.
