Profile of drivers who have temporarily received their license driving for the second time and attended the training: Antalya, 2019

Objective: This study aims to determine of the 2019 profile of the drivers who are detected by the security forces while driving drunk for the second time, whose license is confiscated for two years, who participate in the compulsory driver behavior development training (SÜDGE). Method: The sample of this descriptive retrospective study consisted of 601 people. As data collection tools, the forms used in SÜDGE by Antalya Provincial Health Directorate forms used; Introductory Information Form, Psychological Tests (Turkish driver behavior inventory, driver excitement seeking inventory, reasons for drinking inventory, alcohol use disorder recognition test, CAGE, mini mental test) were evaluated. Categorical data in data analysis; continuous data in percentages; are given with mean, standard deviation, maximum-minimum values, median-inter quartile range. Results: The mean age of the participants is 41.47±10.46, 98% of them are male, 32.9% of them are high school graduates, 65.9% of them live in the city center, 88.5% of them work in a job. It was found that 40.8% had financial loss, 6.2% had an injury, 0.5% had a fatal accident in drunk driving. It was determined that 43.1% of the participants used alcohol several times a week, 14% of them used recreational drugs together with alcohol, 10.8% of them used psychiatric drugs. Socialization (9.94±4.64), pleasure (8.62±3.83) had the highest mean scores among the reasons for drinking. The Alcohol Use Disorder Screening Test, 31.8% of them showed "harmful alcohol use behavior". According to the CAGE scale, it was considered that 49.5% had 75% alcohol use disorder, 1% had 100% alcohol use disorder. Conclusion: It was determined that about half of the participants had an accident while driving while drunk, about one third of them showed harmful alcohol use behavior, at least half of them had alcohol use disorder. It is recommended to raise awareness, raise awareness of the society about not drinking and driving. Key words: Alcohol, driver behavior, SÜDGE, accident risk, public health
