Abstract (EN)

Water, which is the cornerstone of life, is a value that has contributed to the development of civilization since ancient times and enabled the formation of a unique cultural context in cities by being associated with place and human practices. In the world transformed by urbanization and economic practices, water resources are today struggling with pollution pressure. In the climate change issue that arises as a result of all these practices, water again emerges as the most affected value. Therefore, the resilience of cities to climate change is associated with the sustainable management of water. Today, the practice of sustainable stromwater management at the watershed and urban scale has become one of the fundamental issues in creating a resilient city. However, today, the relationship between water and the city continues to be perceived as mechanical in many cities, this relationship is gradually weakening with the planning, design and infrastructure activities carried out in this direction, and the vulnerability of cities to climate change is increasing. From the watershed scale to the urban scale, the created water-city culture needs to be protected and combined with sustainable stormwater management. In this sense, within the scope of the thesis study, it is aimed to make suggestions for the Zeytinli settlement, which is the place of a local-scale experience where the water-city culture continues, by examining sustainable stormwater management approaches and guide/manual examples from the world literature. In this context, the thesis study reveals a method for how the synthesis made on the way the examined guides/manuals handle the city they live in can be transferred to Zeytinli, a settlement in Turkey.
