Agricultural subsidies and regulation policies in the framework of climate smart agriculture: An evaluation on Turkey

It is estimated that one out of every nine people in the world is hungry and approximately 17 percent of the world's population cannot access secure food and sufficient food. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicts that agricultural production should be increased by at least 60 percent in 2050 to fulfilling food demand. While the decrease in natural resources and the destruction of agricultural lands increase product and income losses; as well as it limits the potential yield growth. Therefore, it further strains the nutrition and food security of the most vulnerable people. Among the predicted effects of climate change is like extreme weather events, destruction of natural resources, loss of yield in agricultural areas, decrease in biodiversity, etc. Climate change severely affects the agricultural sector, and its potential impacts pose significant threats to agriculture. In this context, in order to reduce or eliminate the risks of climate change, a new discourse and agricultural transformation should be made: "Climate Smart Agriculture" serves this goal. In this study, climate change, food security, agricultural policies, climate smart agriculture issues in the literature based on the theory discussed whether it was compatible after the evaluation of current agricultural policies to achieve goals of sustainable agricultural and climate change projections in Turkey with the help of tables and graphs in consideration of agricultural policies and agricultural subsidies and suggestions for solutions made.
