Reflection of government ideology on children's magazines: Instance of Türk Çocuğu (1944-46)

In this study, examples of the elements of official ideology, nationalism and gender elements, the search for a new generation and the shaping of the nation-state building process through mass media, in the content of the children's magazine Türk Çocuğu, which was published in 25 issues in 15 day periods between 1944-46, are discussed. is taken. In this thesis, the content of raising citizens and acceptable citizens is examined under the headings created around the determined themes, by evaluating the political, social, international and economic conditions of the Republic of Turkey, as well as the period before and during the transition from the single-party period to the multi-party system in the Türk Çocuğu magazine. Qualitative content analysis is used to deal with the keywords determined around the nationstate elements in a total of 25 issues of the journal. In the thesis, it is aimed to determine the nation-state elements in genres such as stories, pictures, drawings and fairy tales that are considered reasonable around the official ideology, as well as to understand children's magazines in the context of the Türk Çocuğu magazine, as a mass media tool to create a republican citizen consciousness. As a result of the thesis, it is understood that while the ideology of power and the nation-state are reconstructing gender norms in minds through mass media, reasonable and acceptable social acceptance is also designed by the mass media.
