The visual repertoire of power: The photographs of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in the construction of the leader cult (1912-1951)

The photographs of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk were put in circulation in periodicals as well as in public places up until his death. These photographs, which were circulated over and over again at various places, played an important role in the construction of the leader cult. This research starts from the photographs which were circulated in the Ottoman Empire years, especially during the National Struggle, then analyzes the images circulated in the Republican period, where his status as the leader of the country was consolidated and ends with a Cabinet Decree of 1950 about the portraits to be hung up to public institutions and state offices.
