The reasons of the Theology Faculty students' listening to rap music

In this research, the reasons for listening to rap music by the students of the Faculty of Theology/Islamic Sciences in Turkey were tried to be investigated. In the research, hip-hop and some related concepts were tried to be explained. The birth and development of Turkish rap, its entry into our country, and its relationship with religion were discussed. The descriptive analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used based on the interpretative paradigm. The aim of the study is to understand the interest of Theology/Islamic Sciences students in rap music and whether rap songs with religious content play a role in it. In addition, it was tried to reveal what kinds of examples in rap music are compatible and incompatible with the participants' own culture and beliefs. In this context, the issue was tried to be addressed with interviews. In the study, it is possible to see the effects of the students' socio-cultural, socio-political, and psycho-social situations and popular culture in the interest of rap music, which is becoming increasingly common among young people.
