The effects of the leadership qualities of the education administrators at the point of forming a team by the school principals and vice-directors

At this research the leadership qualities, which the Education Administrators atthe district level need to have, in order form a team and them being perceived asleader by the school principals and vice-directors; and their perception themselvesas a team are searched for.This research has been conducted on 309 public school principals and vice -directors, who workim Küçükçekmece District Directorate, which is under theadministration of the city of İstanbul Education Directorate.Cronbach α coefficient was calculated in order to maintain the structuralreliabilities of the scales used in the research. To test the hypotheses, Anova andSpearman Correlation Analysis were used.The research concludes that the District level Education Administrators beingperceived as leaders depends on the following characteristics: motivation,inspiration, risk taking, being role model, taking joint decisions, creating anappropriate team climate and culture, give attention to his/her subordinates, have agood communication, providing social benefits, have vision, have the ability todistribute this vision and persuasion.In order that the school principals and vice-directors to perceive themselves asteam they need to have a common goal, have a good communication network, thateverybody is aware of their roles at the team, being able to form a team bond anda team spirit. It is been concluded that the two leadership characteristics, namelypersuasion and being able to give inspiration are less effective at the perception ofthe subordinates themselves as a team than the other characteristics.Key Words: Team, District Director, Leader, School Director
