Abstract (EN)

Objective: This study aimed to develop an online Qigong exercise program for older adults and to assess the usability of online exercise training as well as the effects of online exercise interventions on balance and quality of life among elderly individuals. By examining the effectiveness and usability of online exercise programs, this research seeks to contribute to the literature by providing insights into how older adults can benefit from technology to enhance their physical activity levels, social engagement, and overall quality of life. Method: The research was conducted using a single-group pretest-posttest design. Individuals aged 60 and above who were enrolled in Anadolu University's "Tazelenme University" were included in the study. Data were collected using the CASP-19 Quality of Life Scale, the Berg Balance Scale, and the System Usability Scale (SUS). A total of 39 participants completed the 8-week online Qigong exercise program. Both parametric and non-parametric statistical tests were employed for data analysis. Results: Statistically significant improvements were found in participants' balance and quality of life scores following the online exercise program (p < 0.05). The mean SUS score was 79.87, indicating a high level of perceived usability. No significant relationships were observed between demographic variables, levels of technology use, and changes in quality of life or balance. However, in subjective evaluations, the majority of participants reported that online exercises contributed positively to their quality of life and balance. Conclusion: The findings suggest that online Qigong exercise programs are applicable and perceived as usable interventions for improving balance and enhancing quality of life among older adults. Online exercise appears to be an effective method that can support active aging processes in elderly populations. Key words: older adults, online exercise, quality of life, balance, usability
