Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of the dissertation is to examine the validity and reliability of the Psychological Resilience Scale for Older Adults in Turkish. The scale developed by Yang-Tzu Li and Yvonne Su Yong Ow (2021) was developed with 4 factors and consists of 15 items. To test the Psychological Resilience Scale which was developed for older adults (PRSOA), the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults (PRSA), Brief Psychological Resilience Scale (BPRS) and Life Satisfaction Scale (LSS), which were previously translated into Turkish and whose validity and reliability were checked, were used. The scale was applied to 337 people between the ages of 60 and 97 living in Turkey. In the study, language, structure, discriminant and convergent validity of the PRSOA were examined for its validity. According to the validity analysis results, it was found that the scale calculated with 4 factors explained 69.04% of the total variance. This result is seen as an indication that the relevant construct is measured well. When confirmatory factor analysis was performed, the results were found to be CMIN/df: 3.10, NFI: 0.90, CFI: 0.93, IFI: 0.93, TLI: 0.90, RMSEA: 0.08. Accordingly, it shows that the fit values of the model are at an acceptable and good level without the need for any changes. The total Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was found to be α=0.88, and the subscale Cronbach's Alpha coefficients ranged between 0.69 and 0.89. The result obtained shows that PRSOA is a reliable measurement tool, including its sub-dimensions. The Spearman-Brown value is .63 and the Guttman value is .62. This result shows that the test is reliable. According to Pearson Correlation Analysis, it was observed that the scale had a positive and significant (p<0.05) relationship with other scales. This means that the convergent validity of the scale is high. As a result, the scale, for which translation and adaptation studies were carried out, was found to be a reliable and valid measurement tool for measuring psychological resilience in older adults and can be used in Turkish field research. It is thought that the scale obtained as a result of this study will make a significant contribution to the literature in future research in the field of aging and gerontology, considering that the society is aging and there is no psychological resilience scale designed or translated for older adults in Turkey.
