role and importance of typography as a means of communication in transferring emotions

This research aims at revealing how typographical choices change the role of typography as a means of communication in transferring feelings with regard to perception levels. It also intends to map out how students' demographical characteristics effect differences among various levels of perceptions.The sample of this research consists of 190 students that are contacted by students registered to Bolu A.İ.B. University, Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts Education by using snowball sampling method during 2010-2011 Fall term.A special measurement tool has been developed to collect data of the research, with the help of an expert view and support of literature. Questions used in the survey are structured based on a pilot application. Assist. Prof. Serap Yasa and Assist. Prof. Meriç Tuncel supervised and approved the development of the tool.Collected data have been processed using SPSS 15. One dimensional variance analysis and independent sampling t-test have been used in the analysis of collected data. Results were presented in table format.Following results were obtained after the analysis of data collected using above mentioned tool:Perception levels of all students, from major art studio departments and non-arts departments, regarding the role of typography in transferring feelings, were high.There was no meaningful difference between perception levels of students from different grades, male and female students and students having and not having a field education at high school level, regarding the role of typography in transferring feelings.There was a meaningful difference between perception levels of students from different departments, regarding the role of typography in transferring feelings. It is found out that the perception levels of Graphics Design Major Art Studio department students were highest amongst all students.
