In this work, I wanted to present how a child acquire a language. Since the department of Kurdish is a new department in the universities of Turkey, there was unsufficient work about this subject, so l explained to the readers of this work the process of language acquisition, stages and development of language acquisition and opinions of the linguist and psychologists about acquisiton of language. For this work children were observed and their interaction with the environment was evaluated. When the children spoke, we analyzed that what kind of mistakes they made and how adults reacted to these mistakes. It was seen that children mostly made mistakes on the sentences of ergative and this is probably because people around the children make the same mistakes. However, the areas of where there isn't problem about ergative in spoken language, children made mistakes on ergative sentences again. It was understood that children acquire ergative sentences later. Acquisition of ergative was a bit complex for children. When children learn something new, a complication took place in their brains. They made overgeneralization and underextension for the new knowledge they came across. It was understood that there is a critical period for language acquisition. It is important for language acquisition and language acquisition must be completed in this period, otherwise, after puberty language acquisition is difficult Key words: First Language, Acquisition, Critical Period, Stages of Language Acquisition.
