The adventure of Turkish Islamism for the perception of the civilization from the beginning to nowadays

Civilization, which is a term that shows different views about its comprehension and its nature like many terms in the social sciences field, takes an important place in thinker's texts from all walks of life since its preluding in the Turkish world of thought, in the first half of the 19th century. The civilization term played an important role in producing thoughts, also in the Islamism thought that arosed as a consequence of the Ottoman modernization experience. Islamist thinkers that questioned the opportunities of becoming modern for establishing the state by taking the Islamic basis into consideration, they produced texts accordingly, which moved civilization to the center. With the proclamation of the Republic, the Islamic thought that was pushed into the background, gained an active qualification again in the world of thoughts together with the liberation due to the transition to the multi-party system in the political field in the 1950's. In this period, Islamist thinkers executed also an idea that leaned to the civilization term. The process from this period forth until today, Islamist thinkers made the civilization term positively or negatively to its key terms of its idea. From the first period, in which the Islamist thought was improved, the views of Turkish Islamists regarding civilization toward the conditions of the period, in which they uttered their views of the period's condition and coming to a state of the modernization, have shown changes and besides that certain basic acceptances were continued to be protected. Within this framework, it is possible to say that alongside the Islamist thinkers, which affirm the civilization term, there existed also Islamist thinkers that regarded the term as problematic. In this direction, the subject of this study examined the process in detail the changes of the civilization perception in the Turkish Islamism and the expressions of Islamist thinkers that incarnate their period individually, from the first period, in other words upwards the new Ottoman movement that came to light in the world of thought, until today. The aim of this study is to approach the views of the aforementioned thinkers and to reveal the interperiod changes and transformations together with its reasons. Consequently, it is observed that the civilization term in Islamic thought have undergone changes and transformations on political and social happenings from the modernization era until today.
