Primary 4th, 5th and 6th grade students several variables by the level of awareness about biodiversity: The case of provınce of Bolu

The purpose of this study, primary 4, 5 and 6 grade students to examine several variables by the level of awareness about biodiversity.The research sample is constituted of totaly 925 students of center and the districts of the province of Bolu in the 2009-2010 academic year, a total of 925 students (491 girls and 433 boys) are.The study data were collected in two ways. The first part, students' awareness of biodiversity and reduction of biological diversity in order to measure perception of the causes of science and technology education curriculum in the 18-item questionnaire was used for acquisitions. 5-Likert-type questionnaire. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined to be .79. The data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed by one way ANOVA and t-test. In the second part students are shown photographs of most encoutering 42 plants at the tre (branch) and at the greengrocer and are asked to recognize. Data from the frequency tables are shown here.As a result, students' awareness of biodiversity on the effect of gender is not statistically of significant, the higher grade level increased awareness of students, students working in his mother and father's educational level is also high awareness of the students showed a higher biodiversity. In addition, the students in the city center of knowledge about biodiversity, have been found to be higher than that of rural areas. However, students who live in the city center, shown in photos of plants in rural areas than that of low levels of recognition were observed. Particularly unique to the province of Bolu, hawthorn, Döngel (medlar), fruits such as rose hips in the city center does not recognize more than 50% of the students, over 85% of students who live in rural areas have been identified.The data obtained from students who live in the center of Bolu, environment, awareness of nature and biodiversity enough not recognize that they are quite low compared to students living in the districts show. Biological diversity around them, especially against the increasing interest of the students, the information required to compare the experience and learn about themselves in real life (İşman, 999).Students in schools grow their own plants, the creation of suitable areas observing them for a long time for students to protect the environment and the positive effects are thought to be the creation of love. In addition, a small botanical garden made of Science and Technology Laboratory seed germination, flower parts, such as photosynthesis, the processing of issues students can see exactly been thought to increase students' interest towards nature. In addition, schools are not limited to the scouting work with the school and its environment, students engage in from time to time in nature and provide on-site observation is thought to be helpful to create awareness of their environment. In this way, the behavior of insensitivity to the environment can be reduced as a result of urbanization and is thought of improving students' awareness about the environment.Key words: biodiversity, sustainable development, primary school students.
