Restructuring 5th grade music education lessons according to the kodaly method

This research was carried out in order to restructure the 5th grade music curriculum of the Ministry of National Education according to the Kodaly Method. This study is a qualitative study. The data of the research were obtained as a result of literature review, document analysis and interviews with experts. The principles and philosophy of the Kodaly Method, developed by Zoltan Kodaly et al., belong to Kodaly. Among the aims of the method; to improve the individual's musical literacy, creativity and ability to use his voice. In Turkey, the music lessons that music teachers take in public schools first start in the 5th grade. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed to restructure the 5th grade music lesson, which can be considered as the beginning of formal music education, according to the Kodaly method. In the study, objectives were determined in accordance with the objectives of the 5th grade music lesson curriculum of the Ministry of National Education and the objectives of the Kodaly method. With the determined goals, it is aimed to develop the students' rhythmic and melodic skills, to develop their musical reading and writing skills, to develop their musical improvisation skills, and to develop their listening skills. In addition, students can express their feelings and thoughts through music, use their language correctly, play an active role in singing and playing activities in individual or collective music activities, have an aesthetic point of view through music, realize and develop their creative abilities, and develop positive self-development through music. While providing; It is aimed to create and develop the virtues of cooperation, sharing, responsibility, benevolence, to love life with the inclusive trust that music gives, love and peace, to know the rich repertoire in their own culture, to know the rich repertoire in different cultures, to get to know the high art music that is known in the world and on which a common decision has been reached. Activities were organized within the scope of 22 lesson plans structured according to these objectives.
